Advocacy For Immigrant Scientists

I was part of the International Scholar Working Group within the UAW5810 local University of California Union of Postdocs and Academic Researchers. Our work aimed at keeping the international scholars informed and taking actions to fight for immigrant scientists rights in the US.

I founded a Slack group for International Scholars in the US, to quickly exchange updated info, links, discuss advocacy actions and provide moral support. This community currently comprises more than 1,500 international scholars. Join here!

We recently advocated against the COVID-related travel bans that prohibit entering the U.S. to the majority of VISA-holders.

Look at our most recent petitions:

Letter to the Italian Ministry of Foreign affair

Letter to Nature on behalf of international scholars

I collaborated with the UC Davis Seminar Outreach for Minority Advocacy (SOMA) to provide resources for international scholars.

Promotion of Open Science

I initiated BioRoom in April 2020, during the COVID19 lockdown.

BioRoom is a virtual biology seminar series across the globe. It gives biologists at all career stages the opportunity to share their own research in a 15-min talk. Some of the talks are recorded and shared with the public on BioRoom Youtube channel, to serve as science communication tools.

BioRoom is currently co-host by me and Dr. Elia Magrinelli.

Shoutout to Alessandra Lodrini for the logo and to Rebekah White for the banners.

Check out BioRoom twitter to be always updated on the next editions!

Equal Education

I believe everyone should have equal access to education. Because of this, I am particularly committed to volunteering for the Ventricular Foundation that promotes outreach activities for young kids from underrepresented communities.
